Parents/Guardians:
Please complete any registration papers you have received for your child and turn them in ASAP to our drop-off bin located outside of the main entrance at West Side. Please be sure to indicate whether you are planning for your child to have in-person instruction or full remote learning. We must get accurate information to finalize plans for this school year. If you have opted to homeschool your child, please bring a letter or send an email to the secretary for our records (cpopetz@harrisburg3.org).

REMINDER:
Returning first and second grade students, please drop-off completed registration paperwork to the West Side office by the end of the day tomorrow (Friday 8/7). We have a bin located outside of our front doors that may be utilized to drop-off the paperwork. New students to the district should call our office and schedule an appointment for registration (253-7637, ext. 5000).

West Side Parents/Guardians, please see the attached back to school plan for West Side Primary. While we know this may not answer every question, we hope this helps to clarify the difference between in-person instruction and E-Learning to aid you in the choice of instruction for your child. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Wilson or Mr. Witges. Thank you and have a great evening !

Unit # 3 students and parents,
I wanted to provide an update on our plan regarding the opening of school for the 2020-2021 school year. We were provided a 100+ page document from the state on Thursday evening that we are going through currently to determine if needed changes to our plan are needed. We also are considering the increasing number of cases in our area to help us determine the best path possible.
We want all of you to understand that we are making an attempt to consider everyone and their concerns regarding this plan. However, our final determination as administrators and a School Board will be what is in the best interest of our student's safety and education. That has to be the determining factor for us at the end of the day.
We have re-posted the survey regarding parents and their thoughts on sending students back to school. We decided to re-post this due to how the situation has changed in regards to cases in our area since it was last posted.
Thank you again for your patience as we continue this journey to make the best decision for our children. We put a plan out as early as we could to make sure you had some information, but we made sure to let you know we expected it to change. We just want you to know that changes to our initial plan is still a very distinct possibility and we will keep you informed as our vision for a solution to this plan becomes more clear to the district.
Thank You,
Mike Gauch
Superintendent

Good Morning West Side, while school did not quite finish like we had wanted, we are already planning for an even better school year for 2020-21. The first phase of that includes a new playground. Here is a picture showing the old playground and as we make progress on the new playground, we will pass it along. Can’t wait to see you soon!! Enjoy your summer.

Parents/Guardians of West Side and East Side students: We will be having a final supply pick-up option for parents on Tuesday, May 26th from 5-7pm. Please come by the school and our staff will assist you in collecting your child's belongings. Have a great summer and we can't wait to see all of our students next school year!

HCUSD #3 and West Side Primary will be holding Kindergarten registration from August 3rd through August 7th. Please make an appointment to ensure a screening for your son/daughter by calling 618-253-7637 extension 5245 (please leave a message if no answer) or by emailing cpopetz@harrisburg3.org. Please keep in mind any student entering Kindergarten must be 5 on or before September 1st. Thank you and have a great weekend !

Today, May 18th, we ask that you try to pick up your child's materials from West Side and East Side between 10:30-12-30. Please return any textbooks and library books at this time and don't forget to pick up lunch for the week. We hope that you can join us on Tuesday, May 19th (tomorrow) for a Summer Send-Off Parade. Teachers and staff will line the streets in front of both schools to wave and smile from 4:30-5:30. Join in the parade and drive by to see your favorite teachers. Please follow the usual one-way drop off routes at both locations. (For West Side, you can begin lining up on the corner of S. Land and W. Lincoln Streets and the parade will continue along Lincoln in front of the school and will wrap around McKinley Street.) We hope to see you there!

Please see the following information about supply/material pick-up dates for West Side and East Side schools and the teacher summer send-off parade:

PreK parents and guardians, we will be conducting PreK screenings remotely (over the phone and through the mail) for the 2020-21 school year. For those of you who had an appointment, you will be receiving a call on Monday, May 4th to go over the process. We are working to make this as smooth as possible and appreciate your cooperation. Have a great day. Mr. Witges and Mrs. Wilson
