
HMS Diagnostic Tests and Tutoring:
HMS students will take their last iReady diagnostic tests of the year on Friday, April 30 at 8:15 (reading) and Friday, May 7 at 8:15 (math). This is for all students - in person and remote. Remote students should report to HMS on those days at 8:00 a.m. and they can be picked up at 10:00 a.m. They will need to wear a mask and bring their Chromebooks and a pencil. These tests, along with their grades, will help determine their math and reading placement for next year. If you have any questions, please contact the office.
Also, a reminder that tomorrow is the last day for afternoon tutoring at HMS.

HMS students will participate in House Competition Day on Friday, April 23. All students should wear their House t-shirts.

The HMS track meet scheduled for today is cancelled. No practice today. Practice tomorrow at 3:00 at Taylor Field.

6th and 7th Grade Parents: The 6th and 7th graders will begin puberty education during PE/Life Skills class. This will occur on Monday, April 26 and Tuesday, April 27. The education will consist of a video presentation followed by a discussion and answer period. Students will receive a note today with more information and I have attached a copy of it below. If you DO NOT want your child to participate in puberty education, please sign the note and return it to your child's teacher on or before Friday, April 23. You may also email it to me at dmcgowan@harrisburg3.org. If you give your permission for your child to participate, you do not need to send the note back. 8th Grade Parents: The 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony will be on May 18 at 5:00 pm at Taylor Field. Students will need to arrive no later than 4:15 pm to line up. Students will practice for the Promotion Ceremony at 9:00 am on May 18 at Taylor Field. All 8th grade students need to be present at practice to receive their graduation t-shirt, a mask and 6 tickets for family to attend the ceremony. Students will be required to wear their graduation t-shirt and provided mask for the ceremony. Read the attached letter for more information. HMS parents: This is a reminder that middle school students are not allowed to attend the high school football games without a parent or guardian present and they must sit with the parent or guardian during the game. Any student who shows up at the game without a parent or guardian will be sent home.

Due to state testing, there will be no remote learning classes or tutoring at HMS this week. All students (in person and remote) should plan to be at school and ready to test by 8:00 am each morning. Students will need their Chromebooks (fully charged), EARBUDS, and a pencil. There are a limited number of earbuds available for $1 if needed. 6th and 7th grade remote students will test at HMS Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week from 8:00 - 11:30 am. 8th grade remote students will test at HMS Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week from 8:00 - 11:30 am and from 12:15 - 1:30 pm. 8th grade remote students should plan to remain at HMS during the lunch break and will be provided with lunch. Masks are required and temperatures will be taken.

All HMS students will take their Illinois Assessment of Readiness exams the week of March 22. 8th grade students will also take their Illinois Science Assessment. All in person and remote students are required to take these exams and they must be taken at school. Please read the attached letter for more information. Contact the office if you have questions.

Any HMS remote student who has not taken or did not pass the Constitution test please report to the middle school on Tuesday, March 16, from 2:00 - 3:00 pm to take or retake the test. Please arrive no later than 1:55 pm. Please wear a mask and enter through the doors by the office. Email Mr. Nyberg for more information.

Attention parent/guardian of HMS 8th grade remote students: All 8th grade remote students in Mr. Nyberg's social studies classes will be taking the Constitution test at HMS on March 10 or 11. Students in his 1st, 2nd, and 4th hour classes will test on March 10 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Students in his 5th, 7th, and 8th hour classes will test on March 11 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Students need to bring their Chromebooks (charged) and a pencil. Please wear a mask and enter through the door by the office. Temperatures will be taken. In person students will take their test at school this week.

Spring Picture Day is Wednesday, March 10. In person learners will be from 8:00 - 11:30am. Remote learners will be from 11:30am - 12:30pm. Orders can be made online BEFORE picture day or you can send money on picture day with your student. Order forms will be sent home on Monday.


Reminder to all 8th grade remote students - HHS registration at HMS tomorrow, February 24, at 1:00. Bring your Chromebook, a pencil and your completed registration sheet (from the Freshman Registration Packet). Wear your mask. Enter through the front doors (under the awning) to get your temperature taken. Students should be finished and ready to be picked up no later than 2:30.
